I'M OFFICIALLY BACK

...from maternity leave. Let me tell you, this pregnancy has not been easy but definitely worth it. I've enjoyed spending time with my sweet Elly Bean, sleeping in, and getting to know her. It's time to get back to work, however, because I can't remember the last time I interacted with humans who haven't seen me naked! So, I'm back at Hess (come and visit me in IB!) and I'm ready to hit the ground running with photography.

First thing I had to cross off my list: NEWBORN PHOTOS! Since I didn't get a chance to take maternity photos, I was determined to get some good newborn photos of my little babe in our home studio.

Friends, meet Elena.

Impressed much? Me too, because I am NOT a newborn photographer. Newborn photography is definitely a different ball game-- It takes a lot of time, tenderness, and PATIENCE to capture that innocent beauty. While Elena was a great model, I almost had to fire myself as the photographer! However, as you can see, it went well... eventually.

It wasn't that I was frustrated as a photographer, more so that I was frustrated as a mom who couldn't seem to connect with her newborn and calm her down. Ugh, I've been here before but the familiarity didn't make it any easier. The lights were hot and I was running out of patience. Thankfully, my loving husband and sweet first born stepped in. I couldn't have done it without them! All their faith in me and patience with me got us through the session. In the end, I earned a whole lot of grace and a heart-full of beautiful photos!
