Foggy beach days
make some families nervous. Not me-- I couldn't ask for a better diffused sunny day! I get it; No blue skies, no golden sunset, no postcard-perfect weather. But this session near Ocean Beach Pier in San Diego is one of my favorite reminders that mood often matters more than sunshine.
When the weather doesn’t cooperate — and that’s okay
The marine layer rolled in thick that morning. You'd think everything would feel slow and soft, quiet and desolate. Well, in San Diego, it's just another Saturday morning.
Instead of fighting it, we leaned in.
Fog does something special:
- It softens light
- It quiets distractions
- It lets emotion take the lead
This session wasn’t about bright colors or big smiles.
It was most definitely about togetherness and long-lasting love.
How this couple showed up (exactly as they were)
They held hands, wandered, and stayed close. They shared jokes and teased each other.
There were moments of silliness, moments of calm, and moments where the crashing waves made for the perfect background music. It's those moments in between where true magic appears.
Ocean Beach has a rhythm of its own.
It’s less polished. More real. Full of texture and movement from natives and tourists alike.
The pier, the sand, the sound of the water — it all invites families to relax a little and stop performing.
This is why I don’t chase “perfect” conditions. Perfect weather doesn’t guarantee meaningful photos. Connection does.
Some of the most powerful images from this session happened when someone laughed unexpectedly; they slowed down together. That’s what lasts.
Don't worry about how your session will look-- just show up and I’ll take care of the rest.

I’d love to help you choose a location and timing that fits your family’s rhythm, not a checklist.
